The Eyes Have It…

The eyes are said to be the window to the soul and certainly over our lifetime our eyes will help us to express emotions good or bad.

As our eyes provide a focal point for our faces it is often one of the first of our features noticed by others.

So it stands to reason that many people want to keep their eyes looking good as they age.

Unfortunately the skin around the eyes is particularly susceptible to the signs of aging, being up to 10 times thinner than the skin on the rest of our faces.

If premature skin aging is a problem for you, you will probably have noticed that the dreaded crow’s feet were the first wrinkles to make their presence known on your face.

QuestionWhat Causes Wrinkles Around The Eyes?

We can call them laughter lines if we like but the truth is that deep lines around the eyes can add unwanted years to our appearance.

A number of factors can contribute to the damage of the skin around the eyes. These include:

  • Exposure to the sun
  • Smoking
  • Environmental pollution
  • Rubbing the skin frequently due to eye irritation caused by allergies
  • Tugging the skin during eye make-up removal
  • Tugging the skin when inserting and removing contact lenses

Top 5 Eye Skin Care Tips

So how can you minimize damage to the skin around your eyes? The following tips can help you to protect the most delicate skin on your face.

1. Stay Out Of The Sun

Sun

Possibly the number 1 rule! The sun causes premature aging of the skin, wrinkles and age spots.

As the skin around the eyes is up to 10 times more delicate than the skin of the rest of your face sun damage will show up earlier in this area than anywhere else.

Protect your eyes by using eye skin care products or a general facial moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15.

Smoking2. Don’t Smoke

A close second to sun damage. Smoking causes wrinkles we all know that!

The action of drawing on a cigarette often causes you to squint as you try to avoid getting smoke in your eyes acerbating the problem.

If you don’t want crow’s feet then don’t smoke – it’s that simple.

3. Wear Sunglasses

Sunglasses

Bright sunlight makes you squint. Any action that causes you to squint or screw up your eyes on a regular basis will hasten the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes.

Protect both the health of your eyes and the skin around your eyes by wearing sunglasses.

4. Remove Make-Up Gently

Cotton pads or balls are recommended for removing eye make-up or applying cleanser to this delicate skin area.

Go particularly easy when working on this area during your skin care regime and avoid dragging the skin as this can cause further damage.

Likewise pat very gently with the tips of your fingers when applying eye cream.

5. Use Eye Skin Care Products

Your regular moisturizer may cause irritation when applied near to the eyes, so only use products on your eye skin that have been designed for this purpose.

It’s okay to use natural products that you have made yourself as long as they do not contain any known irritants.
